Yamaha Zuma Scooter
Why is Yamaha zuma 50 not running.?

I have a 01 zuma 50cc scooter. at first it would start right up but after riding for awhile it would not start with electric start(turned over fine but wouldnt start)you would have to kick start it So i put new spark plug in it. did not help. after a while it got to be where you had to hold the throttle wide open and kick it to start. so i thought it was flooding and drained the bowl on the carb now wont start at all, the bowl is filling back up. i am out of ideas plz help

First the simple solution (hopefully). Needing to use the kickstart is not uncommon, as that would be a low battery. Sadly, just running isn’t enough to charge it, you’d actually have to ride it for a decent amount of time, and even then it might not charge completely. This could be possible if the scooter has never been winterized.

Needing to open the throttle a little to start isn’t a big deal, but needing full throttle is a pretty big deal. Sometimes mine needs more than a little opening, but that’s if I had been driving full throttle for a while. The first thing I would check is the air filter, and to see if its clogged in anyway. The lack of air could be making the scooter burn too rich and even foul the plug.

If that doesn’t help, then I’d take the advice of the other people answering this and check your fuel.

There is a site called provoscooter.com that has a forum specifically for the zuma/bws. I can guarantee the answer will be somewhere in the forums, if not, someone can answer it. There are a lot of experianced guys on there. I knew nothing about scooters before that site.
