Miles Big Extras
I have to start riding my bicycle to work….?

Avoiding the Highway I’ve got 2 routes to take, 10.5 miles and 11.5 miles. The latter of which gets me around the business district and avoids a large hill. How long should I have to leave ahead of time to make it to work on time and is not pushing the bike up the big hill worth an extra mile of biking? I have a 12 speed and half of the ride either way will allow me to use the higher gears.

It depends a lot on your conditioning and how hard you’re willing to push yourself.

I have about 15 miles from work to home & it takes me just under 1 hour when I’m coming home. That’s with following traffic rules (stopping at lights) and a few big hills. If you’re in good riding shape, I’d say you should be able to do 10-12 miles in less than an hour and still have plenty of time to change clothes & clean up if you give yourself 75-90 minutes.
